Perfect room

I think I have just found the Perfect wallpaper for my room. Its exactly what i've been looking for. I've decided that red would look too strong but thought that pink would better suit my vintage theme.

I'm in love with it=] I have also found some really cute bed covers that i want aswell. Thank god for Laura Ashley=]
I think with some vintage looking lamps and maybe a chandelier (maybe thats going to far) A vintage looking birdcage or manikin, three white walls, plus white wardrobe that would work really well.

CPD Results

Got my Creative Design and Promotion results back today, I got 61% which i'm really pleased with as I thought i had done really badly as I find it a bit troublesome coming up with how to layout a sketchbook.
I'm thinking over the Summer I'm going to and work on these skills as i know they will be needed. But my Construction however is strong which I am pleased about because thats the most important thing I need to be able to make my own or someone elses work, especially for bridal wear.
I've been given some sites to look at and they look very useful, I'll put them up here for other people to use and also so I don't forget about them lol.

Just by looking at these they give large amount of ideas, i also want to work on my style of figure drawing too, I'd love to be able to draw really elegant line ones.

And thank the weather its hot today, first beach trip of the year got to love when we get our little heat waves in this country and its a plus being so near the beaches=] Tan top up time, well more a bit pink lobster.

Inspiration and Projects

I don't know what's come over me but at the moment i want to make absolutely everything. I randomly brought a lovely blue satin a few weeks ago and am still deciding what to make out of it, i'm thinking a skirt or a dress, it's absolutely gorgeous fabric.
But then today a lovely trip to fabricland and what do i buy? Some red fabric. I really want to make some cushions for when my room get redone and i'm thinking a nice red vintage look, but still not sure haha. But i do know i want to make everything for it cushions, curtains, maybe even the duvet covers... I've got till September to think about it but i just want to start it now, i like having little projects to do.
Founjd this wallpaper which i really like while searching. Not exactly red but i love it.

Another one that I'm doing is making a bag that is the same i made for one of my A level projects but my friend loves it so I've decided to make one for her ready for her birthday in August=] It based on an Indian sort of style where i'm doing it all hand embroidered and adding in shisha which is mirror embroidery.

Findings from Procrastination

Ok I tried to start writing my placement report today, but as always got a bit sidetracked, procrastinating in other words, usually the culprit is that horribly addictive facebook, but amazingly I got bored of that and came across some fashion blogs that i think are worth taking a look at.
Procrastination can be bliss at times=]

http://www.ashadedviewonfashion.com/
http://www.catwalkqueen.tv/ - this one was started by a London College of Fashion student, who now gets more hits than vogue=o the power of blogging is unbelievable
http://www.facehunter.blogspot.com/ - this one i think is good as its mostly photos but it gives an idea about stylising
http://www.feelslikewhitelightning.com/ - this one is nice as it shows what you can get from charity shops and how obssessed someone can be with fashion
http://gofugyourself.celebuzz.com/ - I found this one funny but useful at the same time, its someone blogging about worst dressed basically. I love how they came up with a creative name such a fugly instead of using the plain old boring name ugly. I love the rantings on here tho.
http://www.libertylondongirl.com/

These are nice to have a look at as they show weird and wonderful designs, and any new collections. I think it helps keep us up to date, i read that more and more people are fashion blogging and are usually now on the front seats at fashion shows as they are so much more accessible.
Looking at their layouts they are all very simple and easy to read.

Day Eleven- Last day=[

Today was my last day and it was really sad=[ I started to really love the place. I made a lace bolero today which was a challenge as the lace was fiddlery and had to do french seams but it turned out really well.

I got a really big surprise today aswell, Mojgan asked me if i can do more work experience and maybe have a part-time job there, I couldn't believe it and of course i want to go back. I'd be able to learn corsetery and everything=]
But it feels absolutely amazing to be told that i'm good enough to go into something i have been dreaming about=]

Day Ten

Quite sad to think that tomorrow is my last day, been really feeling like part of the team. Be nice to have afternoon naps again though=p
Mojgan wasn't in today so i just carried on making a skirt and helped in the shop, we had a power cut as they had the electrics changed over, so that slowed the day down a bit, funny tho that the man had to go under the flooring to get to the electrics.
Had lunch with Mojgan's sister Sunny which was really nice, just had a nice chat. O i really don't want to leave i love it to much, hopefully i can get more experience with them *fingers crossed*

Day Nine- computer wizard

Did some more skirts today and timed myself on a pink one it took just under 2 hours which is really good, plus it was up to quality=] I was also given a tie to make today, which was different as i've never done men's clothing before so have never done a tie, but the process is actually easy its just a pain trying to bag the whole thing out.
I also managed to fix the computer lol, A-Level ICT is coming in handy, the mouse had crashed and they didn't want to lose all the work on it, so i was able to use the keyboard to save the work and managed to fix the mouse problem=]

Day Eight- I am the stitching Queen

Today I did a whole lot of machine work, i finished the waistband on the red dress, finished the brown one ready for a fitting and was then given a pink skirt that Mojgan wants me to time to see how long it takes for me to make it, In a hour i managed to put the underlining together and also the top skirt with zip in. So tomorrow i will just have to bag it out and do waistband.=]

Day Seven

As they had another work experience girl from a school start today, she's not able to use the machines. So that has given me the chance to do more machine work, i was given two skirts to do, i managed to finish the red one. I'm really pleased with myself and apparently Mojgan is pleased at my work.
Can't believe how quickly the week is going, i don't want to leave=[

Day Six busy weekend

Ok it was my day off today but i've been enjoying working at Mojgan's so much i asked to come in for a bit today=] I definately can see that my skills are improving and am developing more confidence in my work. I feel so comfortable working there its such a nice atmosphere. I started making a skirt today but didn't finish as had to help downstairs as they were very busy but omg it was amazing seeing the customers faces when they see what they look like, we even had one lady crying. I think this is such a rewarding business to go into and is so lovely.

Day Five

Today Mojgan had a trial day with someone to fill the open spot of needing a machinist, so i didn't get to use the machine that much today. But the girl, Emily, on trial today was lovely and was even from the same uni but doing the BA fashion and in her last year.
However i was taught how to make headbands which was really nice to try something else, Mojgan really lets me be creative and encourages me to which is great and really helps my confidence in myself.
I also got a chance to do some pattern cuuting i'm really getting a chance at all aspects. I also got to see a fitting and what crazy customers you can get, we had one which was in the shop for 3 hours.

Day Four Finish Perfect

Today i did the finishings on the blue dress i was embordiering on white flowers yesterday. On the chiffon part where i had overlocked the hem i stitched white ribbon over the top and on the blue i just overlocked and turned it.
It was quite a peaceful day had to go to sewing world over the road to get lining and thread and omg its expensive in there i know i'm going to stick to fabricland.
I helped out downstairs again in the shop changing the dresses on the manikins and there was a beautiful cinderella looking dress i absolutely fell in love with it, it was gorgeous.
Had to put dresses customers tried on back on the racks and ended the day with getting lining ready for a blue skirt. Day really goes fast i love it so much there and i think its made me want to go into bridal even more, i've even started thinking about how i would set out a shop.

Day Three

I don't know where the day has gone feels like an hour ago i was there. Today i did quite a few fixtures and alterations.
I had to first finish stitching the lining to the skirt, then i was shown how to put eyelets in garments for things like corsets, this was very handy to know but very fiddly after i had done that i helped alter a size 12 dress to make it a size 10. To do this i had to tack stitch along some pins placed to the needed size and undo the lining from the dress a little bit so that it could be taken in, once that was done i did a few bead stitching as some were coming off the dress so had to make sure that it was all secure.
Mojgan then showed me how to take the dress in and it was actually really simple and i had to remember to cut off the excess, at that point it got busy so had to help downstairs in the shop and help put dresses back on on the racks or mannequins after the customers were done.
I made two calico bodices which will be use for a fitting with two different customers, i was also given a dress which i had to change the straps and make them shorter plus adding material flowers to the straps these were placed one inch away from each other on both straps. I ended the day with overlocking the chiffon overcoat which hopefully i'll finish tomorrow with ribbon.

This placement is really enjoyable and i feel i am learning alot, Mojgan has even said that i might be able to get more experience on days when i don't have uni=]

Underskirting- Day two work placement

I can't believe how quick the day has gone i start at 10 and finish at 5:30 but seems so much shorter, i started the day with a trip to fabricland in Poole as i live near there and the staff at Mojgan were wondering if they had a yellow chiffon in stock there. I found the fabric only problem was that there was only 1 and 3/4 metres of fabric out of the 7metres i needed to get. Luckily they get stock in Thursday afternoon but they also said about mail order which was really helpful.
Once at Mojgans i carried on with the skirt and had to put the lining to the skirt, i'm so scared of making mistakes and making sure that its perfect as it is on order for someone, i also made the underskirt for it which is massive and puffy as its made out of netting.
I wonder whats in store for tomorrow.

First Day of Placement at Mojgan Bridal Couture

Ok i've got to admit i was absolutely wetting myself about placements it was the one part of the course i was dreading as it goes outside my comfort zone. But i got into mind and sorted out my work experience a few weeks in advance as someone mentioned about Mojgan Bridal Couture and after today i really think i have chosen the right place=]
Eventhough it was my first day i wasn't short of things to do. First thing i did was steam a dress and then had to help with a dress (like grey-green one in picture) doing the gathers and adding crystals and pearls.

I really enjoyed my first day and Mojgan is really eager for me to learn as much as i can. She has even given me a project of making a skirt part for a dress when i can't find anything else to do which is really great as it means i won't be sat around bored and am contributing to making someone really happy on their special day=] It was also really different from uni as the seam allowance we use is 1cm but here i had to use 1.5cm and for the CB 1 inch.

I can see this is going to be a really worthwhile experience=]

Final Review

I was actually quite pleased with what i made but also wish that i made something that i could actually wear, I also wish i did my sketchbook a bit differently but i have never been great at doing them, eventhough i did really try on this project.
My piece ended up looking quite bridal which i didn't mind as its a career i have seriously considered, but i would like to have gone more to town on it.
But i'm glad my dress turned out better than i expect, it was quite a challenge to create. And i am happy that the tutors liked it in my crit and commented it on being contemporary.
I think this has made me even more excited for the second year and being able to make a collection.
