Newspaper/Magazine Stands of the Future

While researching for my fashion as a forum unit me and Sam came across this youtube video, I found this amazing and can really see it happening in future. It's amazing how the tablet automatically reacts with the stand, genius.

Lyndhurst Wedding Show

Here comes the Bride(s)
Another show, it was quite a drive for this one and wasn't very busy. Only made two appointments, which isn't great. However I was right next to the wedding cake table, meaning cake samples Galore.

Fashion/Textile Designer Laura Baruël

Enter The Jungle

The textures and colour gives this a 'bird flying through the air' look, it looks light and well constructed, it has that messy jungle appeal.

These leaf inspired designs are truely from the woods, the first one looks like it has grown that way and is what nature has purely produced. While the second reminds me of how a leaf falls, or twirls in the wind.
I love how her work links and shows a clear aspect of nature and how she goes right out there with showing her theme.

Wedding Nature

Looking in a Garden you may see one of these numbers *growing* there.

Vintage looking with a beautiful flower embroidered hem, simple yet effective.
I love this wedding dress by Aimee Montenapoleon it is so pretty you want to wrap yourself in it, it has the drool factor for me. The vintage pattern with the tulle gives a gorgeous garden tea party look.
And look put some white chiffon on top and its a whole new dress, something more traditional.
I kinda like being able to see the hoop it gives of a delicate as a petal look.

Amor Coetzee

Weird or What?
These photos are by photographer Amor Coetzee, his theme is about being connected to nature and I found this ties abit into mine (Nature Reclaiming) I see these photos as nature taking over and combining to be one. They may look freaky but they are surely something worth looking at.
I love how he has replaced her arm with vines, it looks like she is one with nature and becoming part of it

I think these photos can help give me an idea of how to present my collection especially in a photoshoot.

Inspirational or what?

On my quest of searching for nature inspiration I came across this, now this is A-M-azing, and is totally inspirational and has got me thinking on using more structual designs like this as they also have a soft, spongey look.

nature taking fashion

I love how you can clearly see where the inspiration has been taken and you can clearly see it in the design.
The delicate colours and lightness of this fishes tail gives inspiration for a fun, floaty dress which gives a flowingness like water.
The way the birds feathers are spread clearly shows the inspiration for this design, it gives an elegant look which looks like it is ready to fly away. Incredible.
The toned down colours on this bird gives a design that it harsh but shows a statement.

Kiyoshi Kuroda

Kiyoshi Kuroda is deeply inspired by nature which is shown in these wacky designs of his. They are over the top but show a power of nature.
Not my usual style but still very inspirational the way he extravagant areas, which I am thinking of doing in my professional project.

They also have an illustratively look which enhances the projection of nature.

Vera Wang nature inspired wedding dresses

I couldn't resist looking at these, they are soo beautiful. I found them while researching into my theme of Nature.

Vera Wang's nature dresses are a must have and give the impression of goddesses or fairies. The otherwise dreary earthly colours of green, grey and brown, have a lovely soft but empowering appeal.
Enchanting.

Mummified Couture Corset

Today I did the optional workshop of couture corset making by using the technique of sellotaping a mannequin with paper round it so that we obtain this shell of a corset.
To make sure that it is tight, darts are created on the front, back and sides to make it as tight as possible then over this sellotape is wrapped round at first leaving the bust and between the waist and hip. When the bust is sellotaped it is done so in a criss-cross, which is then cut into to get a perfect shape of the bust.

Draping Results

I was quite proud with my draping results I got a 61, though I know I could have done better. As I realsied after I missed some important things out. But still quite good considering I didn't particularly like the project.
I think I prefer more structured garments.

LONDON

In London I managed to see many inspirational exhibitions, I absolutely loved the Jewellery display in the V&A. Sadly photography was not permitted (couldn't do it on the sly either as a member of staff was in there) as I found some beautiful jewellery which fitted with my theme, they were stunning.
But couldn't believe that both fashion and photography displays were closed and then the Textiles me and Sam just couldn't find.. It's a maze in that place...

Also managed to find Somerset House (London is a confusing place, I don't like it) where we saw two more exhibitions; Matthew Williamson where did manage to slyly take a few photos.
I loved the vibrant playfulness of his photography they make you want to jump around with joy.

We saw an exhibition of Joy Division which we some photography of the band, it was interesting especially as it was mostly black and white, however the hall they were in was dull and out of the way.

Nettle for Fibre by John-Paul Flintoff - "Through the Eye of a Needle"

This was a video we were shown in the lecture and I found it quite interesting about what you can do with nettle

Ethical Lecture

I stayed for the designers toolkit in this lecture as it sounded the most useful too me, I learnt that there are soooooo many different types of ethical fabrics some I have even heard of before, it was very interesting knowing other alternatives. Eventhough I am for ethical fabrics I don't think I will totally convert as I like to have a range of different fabrics to use plus ethical can be expensive or hard to find.

Ethical Fabrics
  • Lyocell (Tencel)
  • Different types of ethical silks:
    • Peace Silk
    • Wild Silk
    • Handloomed Silk
  • Cupro
  • Sasawashi
  • Nettle
  • Pineapple!!
  • Banana!!
  • Tassar
  • Eri
  • Muga
  • Hemp
  • Bamboo

Professional Project... Theme

I had a chat with Sarah James today and have finally come up with an idea. I'm going to look at urban agriculture and look at the revolution of plants growing in deserted buildings such as like in Detroit. I hope this is strong enough theme.
At the moment there is a revolution on growing your own food and in urban places there are community plot sharing plus other ways of growing in tight spaces.

Learning Agreement Tutorials

One thing first I have no idea how I do it but I keep spelling Agreement, with the r before g, atleast I realise. I needed this tutorial as the Learning agreement is worth 30% of my final mark on this project! And I need to remember to put about how I'm going to research in it. This tutorial was helpful as I was given a sheet of examples on writing the learning agreement, buttttt... I can't really write it yet till I figure out my theme!!!!

I've even spent the rest of the day researching for a theme, still no luck!

Creative pattern Cutting

Learning how to make 3D shapes in garments and was much simplier than the outcome effect. I did a practice on a square piece of calico and and took this new knowledge and put it on a sleeve. I think this has definately helped me think outside the box and will hopefully encourage me to create something completely out there. *fingers crossed*

On another note I'm still trying to think of a theme, I need one that will keep me interested and that I can find many directions from it. Just want to Scream need to hurry up and come up with an idea. *still fingers crossed*

Corset samples

One thing I've always wanted to leearn is corsetry and today we had workshops on how to create two different types of boning corsets. One that is the proper way and the other a technique that highstreet shops use.

I found this easy to do compared to what I thought so was happy and would love to include a corset in my collection.
Touching on that subject I am still having trouble on finding a theme hat is to do with revolutionary maybe I'm being to picky but I have to find something I can get stuck into.

Sleepy start to a new term

First day back to uni in the new year, and man it was hard not only to get out of bed in the morning but to also last the whole day... lucky it didn't seem too long a day. But it seems that everyone was struggling to gt back into the swing of things so we started the term of by doing sample pockets ..Yes more sample pocket.. How many can there be??? I did a jean structured pocket with a little pocket inside and the utility sort of pocket, very handy to know both of them.
