Design

Today we've had some time to work on our projects, and to see where i need to get up to. The same as yesterday, but yesterday we did colour palettes and worked on our projects. Finished early so went home and did more sketchbook work.

Researching and the week

While doing some research for manifesto project i came across this picture which i found quite amazing as i've choose the theme fairy tales and found this reflects it very well.

Thursday 21st
Was our first Lectra lesson, i think i am going to enjoy this as it seems really interesting and i found it so cool how you can digitise a pattern into the computer.

Wednesday 20th
We had our first buying and merchaising lecture, i found that i had already learnt most stuff that the tutor was talking about as i did it in Alevel business but still its interesting to see it in a fashion view, though the 3 hour lecture i did find to be a bit of a killer.

Everything up to today

Got a little bit behind on my blog after the long christmas break. So heres a bit of a catch up

Tuesday 19th Jan
Today was another IT lesson where we are just working on our PPRD presentations and blogs, which i really needed to do lol.

Week 13 Monday 18th Jan
Deadline Day argh.. Had to make sure my projects for communicating visions in black and white and Melting Pot had to be in by 9:30am =o I handed it all in on time and glad to get that off my back so i can work on my manifesto project.

Week 12- Monday 11th Jan
As there had been a lot of snow the week before (though Poole was barely touched=[.) not that many people turned up, but that was ok as it meant we managed to have more one to one time with the tutors that i found very useful, as i needed ideas of how to set out my research and work and also what to conclude. We also learnt how to do a customer profile=] So overall this day i found very resourceful and helpful. Though it as tricky getting in because of the ice and snow.
Have the rest of the week of to rest from the shock of getting up early again.

During Christmas
I managed to get quite a bit of work done during the christmas hols, i spent most of my time researching fairy tales and reading through them deciding what ones i want to do=]
However i found an article during my research that said parents are starting to not read some fairy tales to their children because they give them nightmares, its sad to think that some kids won't know some of the classical fairy tales that most people have grown up with.
Sam also came round during the hols to do our New York presentation for PPRD we thought it was better to have it ready now than rush it later=]
Overall had a lovely christmas and New Year=]

Before Christmas
Have been very busy trying to finish my shirt on time, before the deadline on Friday 18th Dec. This proved very hard as there are about 40 students trying to do this all at the same in one studio. However i managed find times when no one else was there and managed to finish it Tuesday so on Thursday i just made sure that everything was done and to standard and handed it in early=]
Whilst that was happening we had tutorials on the Monday about our new project called manifesto which sounds very interesting as i can also choose my own theme, i've decided on Fairy Tales and Nature=]=]=]

Sadly before Christmas i missed the debate on eco fashion on 8th dec as i had to go home as i fell really ill, i was really looking forward to this as i was on the for side so i thought i'd put my thoughts out on here since i'd done the research and would like people to know my thoughts and my arguement for eco fashion, so here it goes....
  • The fashion industry is known as one of the most ruthless and most polluting industries in the world. So i think that eco ashion is doing the world a favour and is much better for the environment and helps our planet.
  • Brings awareness about its origins, how, who, where, under what conditions- you can see the affects of non eco friendly materials.
  • Eco fashion makes sure there are fair wages for manufacturing workers- this is good as most manufacturing happens in poor countries where they can be paid less than a £1 a day and work in horrifying conditions with no health and safety.
  • This carries on from last bullet point, People who make clothes often work in terrible conditions, Northern Countries import cheaply from South, made by sweatshop workers (unfair and can use child labour!) who work long and hard for very little money.
  • Use of Eco friendly materials that won't hurt the earth:
    • These listed are harmful to the environment:
      • Pesticides -
          •  Harms Wildlife
          •  Contaminates other products
          • Gets in food we eat.
      • Bleach -
          • Damages environment
          • Damages peoples health
      • Clothes -
          • Takes up land fill sites
          • These can be reused or recycled
  • High quality garments can be made ffrom second-hand clothes and also plastic bottles
  • There is a big problem with 'Throw-away environment' This means that clothes are made and brought so cheaply that people literally just throw them away after a few or maybe no uses.
