Egypt and Christmas!

First things first, Egypt was A-M-A-ZING! It was so hot, the resort beach was closed to diving but you were still allowed in the shallows and there were hundreds of fish there. The resort was HUGE and was sooo posh that we felt a bit out of place. Its also funny how many times you are sold for camels or chickens.

However came home chrismas eve and I was so ill, not good on a 5 Hour flight then another 2 hour car journey home. So yes Christmas Day I was sick and in bed and couldn't eat a thing=[ one day I was looking forward to, shame really=[

Egypt!!!!

I'm off to Egypt tomorrow at 3 in the morning!!!! Early start but I've always wanted to go to Egypt exciting stuff!!=]=]
It's a shame I won't be near the pyramids but still one new country visited to add to my map. However I am going to Sham el Skeith where the recent shark attacks have occured, typical always something when I go away.

I'm going to be staying at the Reef Oasis Blue Bay Resort and Spa, it looks amazing!!!

Professional Project...

And its based on.... REVOLUTIONARY. And to be honest I'm not really keen on the word as it doesnt seem me and I know that I am going to struggle on finding something I'd like from this word. But I guess it is a challenge. Pretty disappointed that we are only allowed a maximum of 4 garments but I guess it'll make us refine more and think about the styling and construction.

Draping Hand in

Tomorrow is the draping manual hand in but I managed to finish it for today=] as tomorrow I have to go to doctors for injections boo...
But still I hope I have done enough to impress the tutors with my work I did work really hard on it, I realised after that I missed some things out whic I wish I could put in.

Anya's lesson

Anya's lessons are always interesting and she has sooo many stories about her time in the industry which is really helpful. She taught us the fashion tree today and also how a group of people meet 5 years before a trend to discuss what will be on trend so that you notice on the catwalk that designers have the same sort of thing or a certain colour.

MoDiP project Hand In

Today was hand in for MoDiP it was very tense to make sure that we had everything and also to print the rest of our boards, as the printer was messing up yesterday.

Draping, Protests, Peclers.. oh my!

 

Today was another draping in the studio day. As i got in late today as i had an injection this morning, I was surprised to find there was hardly anyone in the studio, I was told that they had all gone to the peclers trend talk, and as I didn't want to walk in halfway through we tried waiting for the second half which we managed to, its nice to see the sort of themes and upcoming trends.

Whilst waiting to go in I carried on with my draping and have decided to make my garment in a coloured fabric to get rid of that white toga look. I have also managed to redo my pattern changing it in places.

Also we saw students gathering ready to march a protest to bournemouths city hall about the student fees going up I really wanted to go but couldn't because of the draping project.

Another day of draping and I started to hem my dress, I just feel a bit stressed with this project as its so free and flowing working with the fabric its hard to make it the way you want it, or back to your original idea. However had another tutorial with Karen and she likes my manual which is good, plus my ideas that i have for it=]

Plagiarism

We were also talking about Plagiarism in todays lesson as well. This made me think about an article I read in Style Magazine in thursday at work.

Alexandra McQueen, Saks Fifth Avenue and online shoe emporium Zappos; has been sued by Hells Angels (the Motorcycle Club) for using their skull head symbol without Hells Angels permission. This shows a case of copyright infringement and shows that you have to be careful about using other peoples work or identity without permission.
The case was in Hells Angels favour and has ruled that all merchandise with the motorcycle club's trademark must be recalled and destroyed.

How to capture your customer

In Anya's lesson today she has been showing us how imprtant it is to capature the customers attention. Also how celebrity endorsment can convince people that it is actually made by them when its not.

We've been very focused on muse as well (the word comes from the greek goddess of inspiration, Muse)
Over all her lessons are very worthwhile and give a big insight into the fashion industry.

Draping on the Stand part 2

Ok today wasn't as bad as yesterday i came back feeling fresh and just created and came up with something I liked in the morning, which i was relieved about. So it meant I was able to go to the next stage and get a pattern from my piece of fabric. I must say I had some MASSIVE pattern pieces.

I also got my jacket workshop grade back=] I got a 68-70 out of the 100. (so a 1:1)! I could not believe it all my hard work in the jacket workshop actually paid off=]=]=] I'm now motivated to do the same for my draping project=]

Draping on the Stand

I started draping on the stand today, and OMG it did my head in and I actually got stressed and I don't usually get stressed. I think it was because when I was playing around with the fabric I liked the first things I created but when I tried to do the same thing again I couldn't. Very STRESSFUL.

First Lesson with Anya

Anya knows so much about the industry and I am not surprised she has been part of it most of her life and been part of some major retailers such as New Look, Warehouse, Dorothy Perkins, etc. She now has her own business called frank and faith.
In the afternoons lesson she took us to castle point so we could get a visual of what she was trying to teach us in lesson. This is a much easier way to learn and really opens up your eyes.

Team Meeting

This morning we had another team meeting, and discussed the tarket market and what business we should target and also a name for the brand.
I also did some work at the wedding shop today too, where i got to change the window display and do up a dress to go in it.

Hand in Day

Today was the Jacket workshop hand in day and for once I wasn't panicking to get it done. I decided to  get it bound today instead of yesterday just incase I thought of something last minute to add in. So the morning I had it bound which caused a bit of a problem as it was too big! but manged to get it bound in the end. I spent pretty much the whole day continuing my work on the Draping project and working on my manual.I think this is coming along nicely.

Finishing off

Today was a finishing off day before hand in, luckily I had finished my work before today so I decided to put buttonholes and buttons on my jacket. I also did some extra lectra work, by trying to make a pocket on it.

Msn x factor news

Ok i don't really watch Xfactor that much, but i always check on msn news and it had an interesting article on the styles of Dannii and Cheryl Cole. Its quite interesting to see how they dress for the show and that there is a bit of competition between them.

Dannii's outfit of choice was created by Antonio Berardi, while Cheryl's was designed by Versus.



Dannii again chooses a number designed by Victoria Beckham, this time in a royal conservative blue, while Cheryl shows off her slender waist in a dusty pink cocktail dress by HMH.



Dannii outfit is a fragrant and floral Dolce & Gabbana. Cheryl unveils her red locks for the first time in a spangly little number by Kristian Aadnevik.




 

Dannii sports a foxy 1940s frilly number by Marchesa, while Cheryl wears a black and white thigh-skimming number by Jonathan Saunders.





Dannii chose a one-shouldered sparkly number by Project D for the night, while Cheryl opted for a purple and pink ruffled top and satin skirt combo by Ina Soltani.



Eden project

At the weekend i went to have a look at the Eden Project in Cornwall. I have to say that the rainforest biome was absolutely amazing especially how they managed to get the temperature to that of a rainforest, it was so humid inside. The waterfall was also amazing.

I managed to take some really interesting pictures of plants there, as I've been thinking about doing my professional project on plants or a garden.

There was one paritcular flower which I thought would look great as a fascinator.

Kaledo

I was only in the morning today as we were in small groups having another session on kaledo. I managed to draw my technical sketch for my draping project.
I also made a tshirt and learnt how the ribbing is easier to do than on illustrator.

More pocket samples and Kaledo

Today I did some more pocket samples, this time the invisible patch pocket and I also had time to make a structured pocket. The structured pocket was very very simple to make.

I also got to have a go at the Lectra based program Kaledo, which is quite a lot like Adobe Illustrator but is a bit simplier.

Pocket Samples

Today I managed to create the One Piece Jetted and Welted Pocket, I found these easy to do, the Jetted was a bit more tricky as it had to be very precise but other than that I was happy to be able to construct them.

I also had a go at changing the Jacket pattern using Lectra, it was quite easy to change the length and is nice that the pattern pieces needed are already digitised into the system.
